Basically. The real source of life is in the seed(s). Vegetables are really just edible plants.

Yes to both plants and people. Until a fruit loses all cellular activity, it is indeed alive. Same thing with vegetables. The iceberg lettuce in your salad is probably still alive as you feed upon it.

The fruits and vegetables may be considered living while still attached to the rest of their plant that produced them. I think once they are picked/disconnected, then they really are no longer alive. They have ceased their growth stage, even though they may continue to ripen off their vine.

I do not really consider them living because the fruit/vegetable is only part of the whole. It is like the ovaries of the plant, you know with the budding and the seeds and whatnot. Just because a woman is alive does not make her ovaries a living creature. This is basically the same thing with the plants that produce edible parts.
